The title indicates that information inside is going to be about eco and enviromental issuess, so therefore the target audience for this magazine is obviously people who are interested in these issues, but the cover also suggested it could be aimed at a younger generation consdiering the colourful image used for the background. I think the cover could be improved by making the subheadings and other text more larger and more apealing.

The main focal point of this cover is the image of Chris brown, where they have also added the main cover line in a large bold font  so that it is the first thing you read when you look at it. The cover title stands out so well also because it has red around it, breaking away from the pattern of the rest of the text that is orange, white or black.  The cover is organised well and all the text is easy to read.  I would say that this magazine is aimed at Teenagers mainly.
The time cover magazine caught my attention because it is quite simple and uses a good image for the background. The cover is uncluttered witch makes you want to read the little information it has on it. Aswell as this the design to the right of the cover is very clever, because it has linked the text with the image, where it is made to look like it is vanishing, like the text says. This also makes the text more clear so it is easy to read. I get the impression that this magazine is aimed men more than women, because of the images at the top of the cover.
This cover looks clean and fresh because of the minimal colours used. It has the most text out of the four covers , but still looks organised and not too busy, as it is all kept neatly to the sides. The cover indicates theres alot to read inside on many different topics. The image suggested that one of the main articles is about Victoria Beckham so this will attract anyone who wants to read about her. The main target audience for this magazine would young women or teenagers, espeshialy anyone interested in fashion and beauty.

Using some abstract photos i took of natural objects, i uploaded these to Photoshop to make them into possible background ideas for my magazine cover. Below i have added some examples of the original photos and then the final effect after using Photoshop.

Original photo above.

Experiment one.  For this i cropped the photo for a more abstract close up to exclude some of the detail and then i added a filter witch softened the texture of the picture.

experiment 2 with the same original photo, this time i have zoomed in even more and stripped the colour, aswell as using image adjustments to increase the contrast. this bring out the texture of the leaves. It almost looks like skin.

Experiment 3. This is similar to the second edit but has more of a shiny texture and shows where the has caught the leaf.

Lond of the rings poster Edit

Above is the final version of the poster i made using Photoshop, i am happy with how it turned out. The process to make this was firstly to collect all the Lord of the rings images needed.

Open the first image that i used for the background and crop it. Then i opened the image i used for the second layer which was of frodo, using the earaser tool i took the hard edges away from the image so that is would blend in to the background, after this i did the same again for the Third and forth layers.  When all the layers were blended together well , i used image adjustment change the lighting effects slightly so all the layers would have similar shadows and light areas.

For final effects i found a black old textured image to used as a top layer and decreased the opacity, to add to the old-looking effect i messed around with the colour balance to give it a yellow stained look and then finally added the title to the top right corner before flattening all layers.

HDR photography

HDR stands for high dynamic range imagery

High-dynamic-range photographs can be achieved by capturing multiple standard photographs, then merging them into an image.

Camras that alow mutiple exposure can be used to make HDR images.

Below are some examples of HDR photos

A Christmas Carol is an english book by Charles Dikens, it was first published in 1843. The story is about an old miser known as scrooge, who devoted his life to making money. He is known for being bitter and not very generous. The story is set at christmas time and the main theme is to show that christmas is a time for giving.

The very first  cover for the story was very plain with no picture on, just the title in the centre, name of author and a few golden leaf patterns,  here is a picture of this below.

Because the book soon became very popular it wasnt long before the book cover was redesigned.

Below are some examples of how the book cover has changed over the century, up to a recent version .

This cover is similar to the original just with colour added and more updated typography .

I found that there were alot more modern covers made recently, each one becoming more colourful.

September 29, 2009

To edit the image of the gravestones below I used Photoshop, first stripped the colour using channel mixer, then by using image adjustment turned it blue from the curves before reducing the red.

To make the picture look more like a print i reduced the contrast and brightness using image adjustment again, changing the brightness to -15 and the contrast to -20.

I next drew an elliptical shape around the focal point of the image, pressed select and inverse, then select and feather to 20-30 pixels.

To darken the selected background area slightly i used image adjustment levels, then deselected the picture to see the results so far.

Using the eraser tool and the choosing dry media brushes, i made a dark black edge to the picture.

Lastly i found a tea stained texture from google, saved it and used it as a layer underneath,  to give an old stained look to the picture, using the darken technique in the layers, then finally  flattend the image and saved it.

Below is the final finished image.

Gravestone edit image
Following on from this i then used the same techniques on Photoshop with one of my own images, below is what the end result, it is  Surpose to look similar to an original Cyanotype.
Cyan 1
to compare to this i have looked for some original cyanotypes.

The above advert for toothpaste would be an example of an Explicit advert beacuse it is using an image that says , ” Do you want a smile like this?” , if not buy this toothpaste.

Implicit adverts are diffrent to this becuase they give out a message that is less ovbvious,  for example the advert below

The family in the photo look very happy and are all smiling, this might make people subconciously think of the message ” you could also be a perfect happy family like us if you but this car”

Man Ray Research

September 15, 2009

Man ray was an american Painter and photographer born in 1890.

He is associated with dadaist and surrealist. He was first a abstract painter and  started photography to record his own paintings. He was born in America but moved to Paris in 1921 and made a living from advertising with photography and then returned to america in 1936.

Man Ray is well known for inventing Photograms, or as he liked to call them Rayograms.

Below are some examples of his photography work.

In my opinion Man Rays style of work is quite simple and bold and i can see that he mainly works with black and white photography.

Above are a few paintings by Man Ray , and as you can see they are a different style to his photography work , mainly because he has used bold colours, although like the photograms they are quite simple, with large shapes and less detail.
